HIV education

Standard Chartered staffs giving out leaflets in an Living with HIV event. The HIV/AIDS pandemic is a global challenge faced by Standard Chartered as a business. Our presence in developing countries, many with increasing infection rates, means HIV has a significant impact on our operations and the communities we operate in.

We respond to this challenge through our Living with HIV programme, a global policy aimed at protecting basic human rights, promoting the health of our employees and keeping the business costs associated with HIV/AIDS to a minimum.

The programme is well established and focuses on the following areas:

  • Raising awareness with our employees through training.
  • Educating local people about the prevention and treatment of HIV.
  • Strengthening our position as thought leaders in HIV/AIDS.
  • Sharing our knowledge with other organisations.

Our recognition as a thought leader on this area is reflected in our support of the Clinton Global Initiative to educate one million people about HIV/AIDS over three years. We have launched a new partnership programme to share our expertise and educational resources with organisations that want to educate their employees or members in the fight against HIV/AIDS. You can find out more by accessing our partnership offer (PDF, 419KB).

At a more local level, we work with youth organisations in Botswana and the student organisation in Malaysia to help eradicate the stigma attached to HIV/AIDS.

Our Great Place to Work section has more information on how we manage the impact of HIV/AIDS in our workforce.

For more information, please read our HIV / AIDS Policy (PDF, 82KB).
