Great Place to Work

Living with HIV

In 2006 the annual cost of HIV/AIDS to Standard Chartered was USD300,000 in Kenya, and USD270,000 in Zambia. To help minimise the impact of HIV/AIDS on our business and maintain a healthy and stable workforce we have added a workplace component to our Living with HIV programme.

Through our Living with HIV programme and a network of 500 HIV Champions, we aim to:

  • Raise employee awareness of HIV/AIDS, how it spreads, how it can be prevented and how to care for those affected by HIV.
  • Make sure all our people understand our approach to HIV/AIDS.
  • Remove the stigma of HIV/AIDS so that more people come forward for testing and treatment, which we offer to all employees and up to four family members.

Consistent with our HIV/AIDS Policy, the Living with HIV programme sits within our Risk Management Framework and is monitored through our Human Resources Business Risk Committee.

China Health Alliance

Standard Chartered is a founder member of the China Health Alliance, a groundbreaking World Economic partnership between the Chinese Government, companies, UN agencies and NGOs. The Alliance was established in response to the growing social threat of HIV/AIDS and TB in China.
